In 2013, a well-known marriage and love website in China, “Jiayuan”, conducted a comprehensive survey on the loneliness index at that time. The survey time was from March 15 to 29, 2013. A total of 83,656 people participated. After strict quality review of the questionnaire, the effective singles were finally selected. 67467 samples of the population were shortlisted.
Through big data analysis, during 2013, the loneliness index of single men (calculated based on the ratio, duration, and degree of the last single loneliness of single people) was as high as 78.0, far higher than 68.9 for single women. “Waiting for the right person to appear”, “self-troubled” and “too busy at work” have become the three main reasons for preventing single people from getting love. More than 70% of single men and women said they have lost the drive to pursue love. (Source: People’s Network-Social Channel “The survey shows that the loneliness index is the highest after the 1970s, and busyness has become the biggest excuse for “two highs” single men and women”)
Humans are social animals in nature. The normal life of a person is inseparable from the normal operation of the whole society. A person with a good social communication circle can often obtain happiness more easily. However, after a lapse of 7 years, although a similar survey was not conducted, the data from China Statistical Yearbook 2018 shows that the total number of unmarried people aged 15 and above in the country during 2017 was 215 million (including 127 million men and 0.88 million women), plus the number of divorced people has a single population of 240 million. The number of registered marriages has been in a linear downward trend since 2013, and has fallen to 7% by 2017.
The rising singleton rate also indicates that the loneliness index of a new generation of people in China is rising. For the country, the higher the loneliness index is, the more disadvantageous it is to the stability of population structure and social stability. For individuals, the rise of loneliness index will further exacerbate the passing of personal happiness.
As a pioneer of the charity cause of “Loving New Lives; Caring Expectant Mothers”, Jment Lim has also discovered in recent years of charity activities that under the influence of long-term solitude, more and more expectant mothers would rather suffer the loss of their children than willing to accept the arrival of children outside the plan, which is more common among unmarried mothers.
Due to the unstable emotional state, expectant mothers cannot calmly accept miscarriage. Even in order to cope with the current dilemma, expectant mothers can easily make a choice to give up their children without being able to obtain firm support. Jment Lim believes that pregnancies out of wedlock are not difficult to find. In the new era, women’s reproductive rights can be determined by themselves. In addition, the country has long relaxed policies on fertility and has not treated illegitimate children unequally. So in the face of the arrival of children, expectant mothers can actually try to accept the arrival of children.
Jment Lim said that the increase in loneliness index is not conducive to the acquisition of personal happiness, but if the expectant mothers are willing to bravely accept the arrival of the child, then the loneliness index will gradually decrease with the arrival of the child, and will also greatly promote the expectant mother that our happiness is obtained, let them feel another happy life besides the two sexes.
More and more people born in post-80s also begin to enter the middle-age stage. However, their single status has not been significantly improved under the huge social pressure. Jment Lim called on young people in society to protect themselves while bravely pursuing happiness. If you become pregnant unexpectedly, the prospective dads must bravely and responsibly bear the child’s life responsibilities with the prospective moms, protect the new life, strive to fight against loneliness, and feel the warmth of companionship in the growth of life.
